Santeria (Way of the Saints) is an Afro-Caribbean religion based on Yoruba beliefs and traditions, with some Roman Catholic elements added.
The religion is also known as La Regla Lucumi and the Rule of Osha. Santeria is a syncretic religion that grew out of the slave trade in Cuba. Syncretism is the combining of different, often seemingly contradictory beliefs, while melding practices of various schools of thought. Hence the mixing of Catholicism, Witchcraft and Voodoo. Haiti News – The Dominican National Police informed Thursday of the arrest “for the purpose of investigation” of a Haitian national who possessed a human skull and two coffins in a place of celebration of the Santería religion in the sector of San Felipe de Villa Mella (Santo Domingo North).
